Carlo Sdoya
South African 1914-1996 (Record auction price R15 250 in 2012)
Born in Rome Italy, where he was schooled in fine art, Carlo Sdoya later moved to South Africa and made his home in Johannesburg, running an art studio - the Da Vinci School of fine art. Studying further with the likes of Durant Sihlali and tutoring several other prominent artists he created an impressive portfolio of works, found in numerous homes and collections throughout the world.
Lovely rural scene in thick pallet knife oil, so much warmth and charisma, and beautifully executed as always - the photos just can't quite do it justice. Lovely scene, 75x60cm, oil on board, neatly framed with light scuffs
