Born in 1977 in South Africa’s North West Province, Corné Weideman is a contemporary South African painter whose richly textured oils celebrate light, atmosphere and the quieter moments of everyday life.

Weideman showed an instinct for drawing from an early age and developed his skills through close study of both European Impressionist masters and established South African painters. A defining chapter in his artistic development came through his relationship with acclaimed South African Impressionist Adriaan Boshoff, who recognised his potential and became an important mentor. Living and working alongside Boshoff gave Weideman an invaluable insight into colour, composition, texture and, perhaps most importantly, the art of observing everyday life.x

While that influence remains evident, Weideman has developed a recognisable style of his own. Working primarily in oils, he combines expressive brushwork, palette knife and generous impasto, creating paintings with depth, movement and a wonderfully tactile surface.
